The Salem district unit of the Federation for the Protection of Educational Rights was launched at a meeting of various organisations connected with education on Saturday.
The Federation has already been formed at the state level with members of 32 different organisations. The meeting to discuss and launch the district unit was presided over by Bala Saravanan, district treasurer, Tamil Nadu Science Forum. He spoke extensively on the new education policy of the Centre and the role of the educationists.
Govindan of the Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Graduate Teachers Association explained the activities proposed by the new Federation.
V. Ramamoorthy, district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, also spoke. The representatives of the Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association, Tamizha Tamil Aasiriyar Kazhagam, Tamil Madu Primary School Teachers Alliance, Tamizhaga Aasiriyar Koottani, Tamil Nadu PG Teachers Association, Tamil Nadu Retired School and College Teachers Association participated in the meeting.
E. R. Prabakaran, president of the Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Teachers Association was elected as the district convener of the Federation for the Protection of Educational Rights and S. Selvam, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Aaramba Palli Aasiriyar Koottani was elected as its finance convener. The meeting decided to contact other like-minded organisations too to strengthen the federation
